Privacy policy
Hush Performance is made by Epiphani Studios LLC (“Epiphani”, “we”, “us”). This policy describes what the Hush Performance app for Mac and the hushperformance.co website do with information.
The short version: Hush does its work on your Mac. It reads the performance data macOS shows any local app and keeps your settings in a file on your Mac. The free tier works as soon as it is installed, and Pro and Complete unlock with the license key we email you. A few features connect to Epiphani services or to services you choose: update checks, Hush Intelligence (an optional paid add-on), Send Feedback and Make it better, Dropbox Release, and purchases. Each one is listed below with exactly what it sends. Apart from what you choose to send us, we do not collect your files, your documents, your browsing, or the contents of your apps.
What Hush reads on your Mac
To show what is using your Mac and to ease back the background, Hush reads the performance data macOS exposes to any local app: process names and commands, CPU and memory use, memory pressure, disk and network activity, temperature state, and battery condition. It also reads the names of your Claude Desktop sessions so it can label AI work by name inside the Hush window. All of this is read on your Mac and shown to you in the app. It leaves your Mac only in the cases in the next section.
What leaves your Mac, when, and where it goes
| Feature | When it runs | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Update check | At launch and every six hours, while “Automatically keep Hush up to date” is on (the default) | A request for the update manifest. Like any web request, it carries your IP address. A new version, when one exists, is downloaded from the same service. | Epiphani’s update service |
| Hush Intelligence (optional add-on) | After each performance audit window (about every six hours by default, and when you choose Audit now), only on a Mac with an active Hush Intelligence subscription | A compact summary of Hush’s own audit: its CPU cost, how often it launched helper programs, the names of its own busy functions, the machine’s load, and the names (never the command lines) and CPU use of the heaviest apps and background programs. Plus your entitlement credential (the email address and key you subscribed with), which Epiphani’s service checks and keeps to itself. | The Hush Intelligence service run by Epiphani, then a language model provider (see below) |
| Send Feedback (Help menu) | When you press Send | The message you write, the contact detail you enter, the app version, your macOS version, the Mac’s thermal state, and, if the “Attach snapshot” switch is on, an image of the Hush window | Epiphani’s feedback service |
| Make it better (Help menu) | When you submit | The type (bug or idea), your title and details, your email address, and the app name | epiphanicash.com, Epiphani’s reward program |
| Dropbox Release (optional, you start it) | When you run it or turn on its schedule | Requests to your own Dropbox account, through the rclone connection you set up, that have Dropbox re-create the files you chose in your account so your Mac keeps online-only placeholders. The files stay in your Dropbox. | Dropbox, over your own connection. Epiphani receives nothing. |
| Claude connector (optional, you turn it on) | When your assistant asks Hush a question | Performance readings and app names, handed to Claude Desktop on your Mac | Your assistant, which handles your conversations under its own terms |
| Buying a license | When you choose Buy or Add Intelligence | Checkout happens in your browser on a page hosted by Stripe, which handles your card. We receive the order details Stripe provides to sellers, keep your email address, the order, and the amount, and email you your license key. | Stripe, then Epiphani’s fulfillment service |
Hush Intelligence in more detail
Hush Intelligence reads Hush’s own audit and writes a plain-language fix list. The service checks that your subscription is active before anything else happens, then passes the audit summary to a language model provider through OpenRouter and returns the written review to your Mac. The review card in Hush names the model that wrote each review. We store which account asked, when, which model answered, the cost of the call, and whether it succeeded. Only the audit summary goes to the model provider; your credential stays with our service. Our service does not write the audit summary or the review text to its database. Providers that handle the summary apply their own terms. The summary contains the names of apps and background programs running on your Mac; it contains no file contents, documents, browsing history, or window titles. You can turn Hush Intelligence off in Hush at any time, and canceling the subscription ends it at the close of the period you have paid for.
What stays on your Mac
- Settings and rules. Your preferences, protected apps, and per-app rules live in a plain file named prefs.json inside the .cpu-lens folder in your home folder (a hidden folder; press Command-Shift-period in Finder to see it). Move to a new Mac, copy the folder, and your tuning comes with you.
- Logs and audits. Hush keeps a record of the actions it takes, performance metrics, and the audit summaries it records, in the same .cpu-lens folder. You can read them there and delete them whenever you like.
- License. Your license key and email are stored in your Hush settings.
- Usage counters. Hush counts a small, fixed set of its own feature uses (for example, how many times Dropbox Release has run) in a file on your Mac. The counters hold feature names and numbers only, and Hush does not send them to us.
- The window and the engine. The Hush window talks to Hush’s own engine on your Mac over a local connection reserved for Hush itself.
Deep Reach, the optional helper
Deep Reach is an optional privileged helper that you approve once in System Settings. It lets Hush slow, reversibly, background programs that run as the system (such as a backup uploader or the Spotlight index) during a load storm, and it applies a named battery power profile for the Overdrive feature. It accepts three requests: ease a program by its process number, restore a program by its process number, and apply one of a fixed list of battery profiles. It accepts requests only from your own user account. Turn it off any time in System Settings, General, Login Items and Extensions.
Working with your AI assistant
If you choose “Connect to Claude” in Settings, Hush registers its local connector with Claude Desktop on your Mac. The connector answers your assistant’s questions about your Mac’s performance and can ease a runaway program on request. What your assistant does with the answers is governed by that assistant’s own terms.
This website
hushperformance.co counts page events with an anonymous counter run by Epiphani: it records the event name and the site, with no cookie and no identifier. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to serve pages. The site’s analytics provider (PostHog) stays off until you turn it on with the analytics switch on the home page, honors Do Not Track, and masks form inputs. The site remembers your light or dark theme choice in your browser. If you email us, we receive your message and your address, and we use them to reply.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep purchase and subscription records for as long as your license or subscription exists and as long as accounting law requires. We keep Send Feedback and Make it better reports, and Hush Intelligence call records (account, time, model, cost), until we no longer need them to support you or until you ask us to delete them.
Your choices
- Turn off automatic update checks in Settings, and check manually from Help, Check for Updates.
- Leave Hush Intelligence off by not subscribing, or turn it off in Hush.
- Leave Deep Reach, the Claude connector, and Dropbox Release switched off. Each is opt-in.
- Ask us to delete the information we hold about you by writing to hello@epiphani.studio. Rights that depend on where you live, such as access, correction, and deletion, are honored on request.
- To see every connection Hush makes, run a network monitor such as Little Snitch or Proxyman while you use it.
Children
Hush is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and the update appears in the Hush changelog.
